The Art of Russell Pierce

A journalist and author known for inventing “Gonzo Journalism”, a form of journalism where the writer is part of the story rather than just an observer. It made it very interesting as Hunter was a bit of a wild man. I first came across his work in Rolling Stone magazine in a series of articles he wrote titled Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail. He had an unusual way of describing events around him, calling out the absurd especially. I first read his book, Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs I was riveted! It seemed like he had no fear and would stop at nothing to get to the heart of a story. The next book I read was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream. A wild ride across the desert to attend a conference on drugs in Las Vegas. The piece in this show is based on this book. If you’ve never read his work, you’re in for a treat.
