James passed away the year before I was born in 1955 and I didn’t become aware of him until I was probably 12 or 13. I saw the movie Rebel Without a Cause on television and loved it. Especially the role of Jim Stark played by Dean. I loved his persona and screen presence and wanted to see more of his work. That’s when I found out he only made three major movies, the other two being East of Eden and Giant both of which I eventually got to see on television. The other two films also highlighted his natural talent. Tragically he died in a car crash at the age of 24. I often wonder what amazing work he would’ve done had he lived.
